We interviewed Malia Gray today. Mrs. Gray is a former member relations and admin manager for Hawai'i public charter schools. Though she now works for Pauahi foundation, she still was able to share her recent work history with us. She shared that charter schools are always in need of school supplies because of their tight budgets. Malia also gave us the schools in which she worked with that always were in need of supplies. The Oahu schools she gave us were, SEEQS (school for examining essential questions of sustainability), Voyager and Malama Honua. Our future plans are to contact those schools and provide them with their needs, but first we must plan and set dates to gather supplies.

After talking to Amy, we decided it would be best to email the charter schools we wanted to reach out to and ask for a list of supplies or materials that they will need for the upcoming school year. After getting this list, Amy told us from there we could together find a way to get these items to the schools themselves. Some other questions we asked Amy about the Donation station was “What are some limitations that the donation station is currently facing?” Amy then explained to us that the biggest limitation she feels is the labor. Many people want to come and pick up supplies, but because it is just her who is in charge of the donation station and she is the one who has to be there to let people in, its hard for her to be there every single time people want to set up a time to come in. We also as a group volunteered to go down and help clean out the station or even just be down there to help her out this week, but she told us that would be hard for her and probably wouldn't work out. Amy also shared with us that she wants to have set hours where the donation station is open from certain times, and it isn't just an on call type of thing. We feel that this would definitely help improve the donation station a lot, and people will not have to make an appointment beforehand, but they can just walk in during store hours that are consistent. We also tried to set up our own appointment to bring down some supplies that we were able to collect for the donation station, but she was not available to do that anytime this week as well.
